The Spitfire F Mk.21 was the first Spitfire with a completely redesigned wing, a stronger and larger "Type Y" design with four 20mm cannons, and the changes were so extensive that the new name Victor was considered. Powered by the Griffon engine, the Mk.21 reached No. 91 Squadron at the start of 1945 and went on to a long post-war career with RAF and Royal Auxiliary Air Force squadrons. Some were fitted with a Griffon 85 driving contra-rotating propellers, which cancelled out torque and made takeoffs and landings easier, and Special Hobby's 2015 boxing is dedicated to these contraprop machines.
