The Fiat G.55 Centauro was among the finest Italian fighters of the Second World War, built around a licence-built Daimler-Benz DB 605 inline engine and designed by Giuseppe Gabrielli. The "Sottoserie 0" designation covers the twelve pre-production aircraft, which carried four nose-mounted Breda-SAFAT machine guns plus a hub-firing 20mm cannon, a different armament layout from the later Serie I. These early machines flew with the Regia Aeronautica before the Armistice and saw limited combat, including encounters with the P-38 Lightning. This release is the pre-production variant of Special Hobby's short-run multimedia tooling.
