Schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503 fought at Kursk on the southern flank of the salient from July 1943, attached to III. Panzerkorps under Armee-Abteilung Kempf. Its Tigers were early production machines without zimmerit, and their finish is still debated: some appear to be dark grey oversprayed with olive green or dark yellow in the field, rather than factory dark yellow. The instructions set out both interpretations and leave the choice to the modeller.
