ROD409 - Roden 1/48 L-19/O-1 Bird Dog - WWHP113747
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Cessna L-19 Bird Dog was the US Army’s first all-metal liaison and observation aircraft after the Second World War, and more than 3,400 were built from 1950 onward. Its high wing, large windows and short-field performance made it ideal for artillery spotting and liaison. In Vietnam, redesignated O-1, it became famous as the forward air controller’s mount. Pilots flew low and slow over the jungle and marked targets for strike aircraft with smoke rockets fired from under the wings. The Canadian Army also flew L-19s from 1954, and they later served with the unified Canadian Forces.
- Light grey plastic sprues covering the fuselage, high wing, struts, interior and undercarriage, plus clear parts for the cabin glazing
- Underwing smoke rocket launchers for the forward air controller fit
- Decal sheet with US Air Force, US Army and Canadian Forces options, including O-1E 57-6273, a forward air controller at Lai Khe supporting the 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, 1966 to 1967, plus US Army 62661 “732” and CAF markings with maple leaf roundels and Canadian flags
- Instruction booklet with painting and marking guides
