The RC-135 Rivet Joint is the US Air Force's primary signals intelligence aircraft, developed from the C-135 airframe and instantly recognizable by its extended "hog nose" radome and long cheek antenna fairings. The RC-135V was created in the 1970s by converting earlier RC-135C and U models, while the RC-135W followed in the early 1980s from C-135B transports, and together they have flown near-continuous reconnaissance missions for over four decades with the 55th Wing at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. The Royal Air Force also adopted the type in 2013 as the Airseeker, making it one of the longest-serving intelligence platforms in the world.
