Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn
The Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat was the US Navy's primary carrier-based fighter at the outbreak of the Pacific War and throughout 1942. Although outperformed by the Japanese A6M Zero in level speed and manoeuvrability, the Wildcat's rugged construction, self-sealing fuel tanks, and armour protection gave its pilots a survivability advantage, and tactical doctrines such as the Thach Weave partially offset the Zero's performance edge. The F4F-4 introduced folding wings for improved carrier stowage and six .50-calibre machine guns. Wildcats fought in virtually every major Pacific engagement of 1942, from the Coral Sea and Midway through the Guadalcanal campaign.
