The Airbus A310 was a shortened development of the A300, fitted with an entirely new smaller wing and a two crew flight deck. It first flew in April 1982 and entered service the following year, giving operators widebody comfort on shorter sectors. Pan Am took delivery of A310s from 1985 and used them on transatlantic and Latin American routes during the airline's final years.
