The FW19 carried Williams to the 1997 Constructors' Championship and delivered Jacques Villeneuve his sole World Drivers' Championship, edging out Michael Schumacher in a dramatic season finale at Jerez. Powered by the Renault RS9 3.0-litre V10, the car was designed by Patrick Head and Geoff Willis and ran on Goodyear tyres in what would prove to be Renault's last works-supported season with the team. Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the sister car took second at several rounds, making it a dominant package across the year.
