The Blackburn Buccaneer was designed to get under Soviet radar at wave top height and put a nuclear weapon on a Sverdlov class cruiser, and the airframe was built like a bank vault to survive that ride. Boundary layer control blown over the wings let it operate from small carriers, and the RAF took it on after the Royal Navy's big carriers went. In 1991 the Buccaneer came out of near retirement to laser designate targets for Tornados over Iraq, wearing desert pink and some spectacular nose art, which is what the box art shows.
