The F-4F Phantom entered Luftwaffe service in 1973, and for four decades it formed the backbone of West German and later German air defence. Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen" at Wittmund marked the type's retirement with the Phantom Pharewell event on 29 June 2013, flying F-4F 37+01 "First In, Last Out" in a striking blue and gold anniversary scheme. Revell released this now-discontinued edition the same year to capture that final livery.
