The Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor was designed by Kurt Tank as a four-engine long-range airliner for Deutsche Luft Hansa, first flying in 1937 and making a non-stop Berlin to New York flight the following year. The A series was the original civil and transport version, some of which were taken on Luftwaffe strength as staff and VIP transports. Later C series conversions became the maritime patrol bombers used against Atlantic convoys.
