Airbus builds its aircraft in pieces across England, Germany, Spain, Italy and France, then has to get those pieces to the final assembly lines at Toulouse and Hamburg. The Beluga was the answer from 1996, replacing the ageing Super Guppy: an A300-600 with the cockpit dropped below a vast upper lobe and a cargo door hinged at the top. The main hold runs to 1,400 cubic metres, enough for a complete pair of A330 or A340 wings, two pairs of A320 wings, a whole satellite, or the first stage of an Ariane rocket. Five were built, and the box art aircraft is number 3, F-GSTC.

Skill level 3, and the finished model has real shelf presence at 38 cm with that enormous fuselage.
