The Spitfire Mk.II followed the original Mk.I into RAF service in the late summer of 1940, fitted with the more powerful Merlin XII engine and built at the new Castle Bromwich factory. The Mk.IIa kept the eight .303 machine gun wing and flew with front-line squadrons through the later Battle of Britain and into 1941. Revell's 2016 new-tool kit depicts P7290, coded AF-V, of the Air Fighting Development Unit at Duxford in April 1942.
