The 17cm Kanone 18 was one of the two primary heavy artillery pieces of the Wehrmacht during the Second World War, serving alongside the 21cm Mörser 18 on the same dual-recoil carriage. Introduced in 1942 with a maximum range of 28km, it was typically towed in two sections by an Sd.Kfz.9 FAMO halftrack, though it could be moved as a single unit when required. To bring the gun into battery, the baseplate was lowered, three recoil spades were set, and the wheels were raised clear of the ground.
