The 126 C2 was the car that made Ferrari's turbo era work. Harvey Postlethwaite replaced the previous year's flexing aluminium chassis with a stiff honeycomb composite tub, and behind it sat the 1.5 litre twin-turbo V6 that finally had the power to match its rivals. Ferrari took the 1982 constructors' championship with it, but at brutal cost: Gilles Villeneuve was killed in qualifying at Zolder in May, and Didier Pironi's career ended in a crash at Hockenheim in August while he led the drivers' standings.
