Description
OTAOT2-6-600 - Otaki 1/48 Kawasaki Ki61 "Hien" (Tony) - WWHP111570
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien ("Swallow") was unique among IJAAF fighters in using a liquid-cooled engine — the Kawasaki Ha-40, a licence-built development of the Daimler-Benz DB 601. Its slim, European-style fuselage led Allied intelligence to initially misidentify it as an Italian design, hence the Allied reporting name "Tony." The Ki-61-I depicted here was the initial production variant, serving from 1943 in New Guinea, the Philippines, and in the defence of the Japanese homeland against B-29 raids. The distinctive wavy "tiger stripe" camouflage shown on the box art was applied to 244th Sentai aircraft defending the Tokyo area. Original new tool from Otaki, 1972; OT2-6-600 is the 1985 boxing. Series No. 3.
Note: Manufacturer is Otaki (Japan). 1/48 scale. WWII Japanese Army fighter — aircraft subject. Out of production vintage kit.
