The Curtiss JN-4H was a more powerful development of the famous "Jenny" trainer, re-engined with the 150 hp Wright-built Hispano-Suiza to prepare pilots for the faster aircraft then entering service. Some 929 were completed between late 1917 and the November 1918 Armistice, equipped with machine guns and bomb racks and assigned to advanced training units for bombing, fighter, reconnaissance, and aerial gunnery instruction. The JNS-1 was a post-war standardised "Jenny" rebuild that kept the type flying into the 1920s.
