NICU-5008 - Nichimo 1/500 IJN Battleship Mutsu - WWHP111451
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
Mutsu was the second Nagato-class battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy, commissioned in October 1921 and armed with eight 41cm (16.1 inch) main guns. Along with her sister ship Nagato, she was celebrated before the war as a symbol of Japanese naval power. Her fate was one of the war's most dramatic accidents — on 8 June 1943, while moored at Hashirajima anchorage with 113 naval air cadets aboard on a training visit, the magazine of her No. 3 turret exploded without warning, severing the ship in two. She sank within four hours, taking 1,121 lives. The cause was never conclusively established, and the loss was declared a state secret. Nichimo first tooled this kit in the early 1960s; U-5008 is a subsequent rebox of that original tooling.
