Description

MPM72514 - MPM 1/72 ASJA/SAAB B-5

The Saab B5 was a Swedish attack aircraft and low-wing light bomber from World War II and the interwar period. The prototype flight took place in 1938. Serial production was carried out in the years 1938-1941. The drive was provided by a single Bristol Mercury engine. The deck armament consisted of five 7.62 mm Browning M1919 machine guns. The machine could also carry a load of bombs weighing up to 500 kilograms.

The Saab B5 was created as a highly licensed and modernized version of the American Northrop A-17 aircraft. After trials in 1938, the Swedish air force decided to start licensed production, with the Swedish machines having more powerful engines than the original American planes. The landing gear was also changed - instead of the retractable, fixed ones were introduced, so that the new planes could be easily equipped with skis and adapted to operate from field airfields in winter. Their construction has also been significantly strengthened. In the mid-1940s, the machines were used for training and training tasks.
