Description
MPC1-4101 - MPC 1/72 F-86D Sabre - WWHP111744
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The North American F-86D Sabre, nicknamed the "Sabre Dog," was a radar-equipped all-weather interceptor developed from the F-86 Sabre day fighter, though it shared only about a quarter of its structure with the original, with a larger fuselage, an afterburning engine, and a distinctive nose radome above the intake. It was the first single-seat all-weather interceptor and the first USAF jet armed entirely with rockets, carrying 24 Mighty Mouse folding-fin aerial rockets in a retractable belly tray slaved to its onboard fire-control radar. First flown in December 1949, it became the most numerous Sabre variant with over 2,500 built and formed a backbone of U.S. Air Defense Command through the 1950s.
