The Chaparral 2D was one of the most technically advanced racing cars of the 1960s, developed by Texan Jim Hall whose Chaparral Cars introduced a series of innovations that reshaped sports car racing. The 2D coupe featured a full fibreglass monocoque chassis and body, a 327 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 producing approximately 440bhp, an automatic transaxle — then virtually unique in racing — and a driver-operated moveable rear spoiler that could be tilted to add downforce in corners or flatten for reduced drag on straights. The 2D ran primarily in the 1966 World Sportscar Championship, with appearances at Daytona and Sebring.
