MON2297 - Monogram 1/24 Ford Motorsport Mustang IMSA Racer - WWHP111909
Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn
The Ford Zakspeed Mustang Turbo was a factory-backed IMSA silhouette racer developed by German tuner Zakspeed in partnership with Jack Roush, wearing the Mustang body over a purpose-built racing chassis. Powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing over 600 horsepower, the car competed in IMSA's GTX class against Porsche 935 opposition from 1981 onward, with Klaus Ludwig, Kevin Cogan, Rick Mears, and Bobby Rahal among its drivers. This kit depicts the #16 car as driven by IndyCar ace Kevin Cogan at Road Atlanta in 1982, where it finished third -- the cover photo on the box was taken at that same venue. Unlike the mid-engined Mustang GTP that followed it, the Zakspeed Turbo was a true production-silhouette racer sharing its bodywork with the third-generation Ford Mustang.
