The Grumman F-14A Tomcat entered US Navy service in 1974 as the fleet's long range interceptor, pairing variable geometry wings with the AWG-9 radar and the AIM-54 Phoenix missile, a combination that could track and engage multiple targets at extreme range. It flew from carrier decks for more than thirty years in the fighter, strike and reconnaissance roles. This Monogram tooling dates from 1981 and carries the high visibility markings of VF-142 Ghostriders aboard USS America.
