The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker entered USAF service in 1957 alongside its civil cousin the 707, and it remains one of the longest-serving front-line aircraft in the world. The KC-135R designation covers the aircraft re-engined with CFM56 high-bypass turbofans, a programme that roughly doubled available thrust, cut fuel consumption by about a quarter, and allowed the tanker to offload significantly more fuel per sortie. Airframes converted to R standard are expected to fly well past their sixth decade. Minicraft's 1/144 kit uses tooling with new CFM56 nacelles and Cartograf-printed decals covering two USAF tankers.
