The KC-135E designation covers Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve KC-135As re-engined with Pratt & Whitney TF33 turbofans salvaged from retired 707 airliners, a stopgap upgrade applied to 161 aircraft that gave the underpowered original J57 tankers a meaningful boost in thrust and takeoff performance. The E fleet served through the 1980s and beyond before retirement in favour of CFM56-powered KC-135Rs. Minicraft's 1/144 kit was the first of its new-tool KC-135 family, with fine recessed panel lines and Cartograf decals covering two Air National Guard tankers, including the New Jersey ANG aircraft painted for the 2004 NATO Tiger Meet.
