The Noorduyn Norseman was a Canadian single-engine bush plane designed by Robert B.C. Noorduyn and built in Montreal, first flying on 14 November 1935. Purpose-built for the severe conditions of the Canadian north, it was a rugged go-anywhere utility transport that could be fitted with wheels, skis, or floats, and its distinctive faired stubby landing gear made it instantly recognizable. More than 900 were produced over roughly 25 years, serving the RCAF and USAAF in WWII (as the C-64/UC-64A) and going on to a long postwar career as a bush-flying icon. One UC-64A holds a famous place in history as the aircraft in which bandleader Major Glenn Miller disappeared over the English Channel on 15 December 1944.
