This kit dates from the F-16's very first years, when the Fighting Falcon was still in flight test and just entering service with the USAF and the four-nation European consortium. The decal sheet captures the moment: one option is a full-scale-development evaluation aircraft, the other wears projected 1979 markings for the Dutch squadrons at Leeuwarden, printed before the real jets had even arrived. Optional parts build either the single-seat A or two-seat B, with the box art showing a B departing at dusk.

This is the original 1978 Matchbox tooling, made in England by Lesney, in the window box showing the multi-colour plastic and full stores sprue.
