The Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter was a lightweight, supersonic single-seat fighter of the early 1960s, powered by two General Electric J85 turbojets. Designed to be simple, affordable, and easy to maintain, it was widely supplied to U.S. allies under the Military Assistance Program and served with air forces around the world. Its small size, low cost, and good performance made it one of the most successful export fighters of the Cold War.
