The F-104G was the definitive export Starfighter — a multi-role development of the original USAF interceptor, produced in large numbers for NATO air forces including West Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Canada, and others. The F-104J was a simplified air-defence version built under licence in Japan by Mitsubishi for the JASDF, where it served as the primary interceptor from 1962 through the 1980s. Both variants share the same basic airframe as the earlier F-104C with a more powerful J79 engine and expanded avionics.

Kit 124 is the 1978 Minicraft Hasegawa North American rebox of Hasegawa's original 1975 1/32 F-104J/G tooling — the base kit from which the F-104C-specific S17/104 releases were also derived. Raised panel line surface detail throughout.
