Cessna's Model 500 Citation first flew in 1969 and set out to bring jet speed to operators used to twin-engine piston and turboprop aircraft, with straight wings and gentle handling that made it one of the easiest business jets to fly. The improved Citation I arrived in 1976 with a longer wingspan and uprated Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D turbofans, and the family went on to become one of the best-selling business jet lines in history. Hasegawa's 1/48 kit, released in North America under the Minicraft Hasegawa label around 1980, remains one of the few large-scale injection moulded Citations ever produced.
