LSMA252 - LS Models 1/72 Japanese Navy Type 93 Intermediate Trainer Willow K5Y2 - WWHP111503
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Yokosuka K5Y (Allied reporting name "Willow") was a two-seat unequal-span biplane trainer that served as the Imperial Japanese Navy's primary intermediate trainer from 1934 through the end of the war. Known in Japan as aka-tombo ("red dragonfly") for its distinctive bright orange trainer livery, over 5,700 were built by multiple manufacturers. The K5Y2 was the twin-float seaplane variant, used to train pilots for carrier and floatplane operations. Late in the war K5Ys were pressed into kamikaze service — a K5Y kamikaze sank the destroyer USS Callaghan on 28 July 1945, the last US warship lost to a kamikaze attack.
