The Camionetta AS 42 "Sahariana" was a desert reconnaissance vehicle developed for the Royal Italian Army on the chassis and running gear of the AB 41 armoured car. Fighting in North Africa showed the need for a patrol vehicle built specifically for sand, so engineers dropped the AB 41's dual driving positions and four-wheel steering to create a rugged, long-range raider. Only a few dozen were built, and after the fall of the African front the survivors served in Italy, finishing their careers with the police in the 1950s. Italeri released this 1/72 kit in 2007, approved for Alza Zero wargaming.
