Description

ITA1435 - Italeri 1/72 Harrier Gr.1 - WWHP113173

Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn

The Hawker Siddeley Harrier GR.1 was the first operational fixed-wing aircraft capable of vertical and short takeoff, using four rotating nozzles to vector the thrust of a single Pegasus turbofan. In May 1969 the RAF entered Harriers in the Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race, held to mark fifty years since the first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic. Flying from a coal yard beside St Pancras station in London to a pier in Manhattan, Squadron Leader Tom Lecky-Thompson recorded the fastest overall time between the Post Office Tower and the Empire State Building.

Box contents:

  • Injection moulded plastic sprues for one Harrier GR.1
  • Clear parts for the canopy
  • Waterslide decal sheet for three aircraft
  • Colour painting and marking instructions

Marking options:

  • XV741, Squadron Leader Tom Lecky-Thompson, Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race, May 1969
  • XV778 "Beach Bugghy", No. 1 Squadron RAF, Belize Airport, November 1975
  • XV758, Harrier Operational Conversion Unit, RAF Wittering, September 1970
