Description
ITA135 - Italeri 1/72 LA-5 Fighter - WWHP111699
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
Italeri's classic La-5, from the original 1970s Italaerei tooling in the early-1980s No. 135 boxing, Made in Italy. Two marking options, both interesting: the captured La-5FN "White 21" evaluated by the Luftwaffe with German crosses and striped spinner (the scheme on the boxart), and a standard Soviet Air Force machine, "White 75."
The La-5 was the fighter that restored parity for Soviet aviation, marrying the LaGG-3's wooden airframe to a powerful Shvetsov radial engine. The definitive La-5FN, with fuel injection and lightened structure, outperformed the Bf 109G and Fw 190A at the low altitudes where the Eastern Front air war was fought. Ivan Kozhedub, the highest-scoring Allied ace of the war, flew La-5s for most of his 62 victories.
