The Junkers Ju 87 G "Kanonenvogel" (cannon bird) was the dedicated anti-tank version of the famous Stuka dive bomber, developed to counter the growing numbers of Soviet armour on the Eastern Front from 1943. It carried two 37 mm BK 3.7 cannons in underwing pods, a configuration championed by Stuka ace Hans-Ulrich Rudel and proven highly effective against tanks in experienced hands. The G-2 featured the longer-span wings derived from the Ju 87 D-5.
