Description

ICM72191 - ICM - 1/72 Heinkel He 51B-1; Spanish AF WWHP112921

Preowned, Resealed, Mint

The He 51 was the Luftwaffe's first production fighter, a clean single bay biplane designed by the Günter brothers and flown in prototype form in 1933. By the time 135 of them were shipped to Spain from 1936 for the Legion Condor and the Nationalists, the design was already outclassed: the Republican I-15 and I-16 had the measure of it in a dogfight, and the He 51 was gradually pushed into the ground attack role and handed over to Spanish units. It remains historically significant as the aircraft in which Adolf Galland, Harro Harder and Hannes Trautloft cut their teeth.
