Description

ICM72072 - ICM - 1/72 I-16 type 18 WWII Soviet Fighter  WWHP112922

Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn

Nikolai Polikarpov's I-16 was the world's first cantilever monoplane fighter with retractable undercarriage to enter squadron service, a stubby barrel of an aircraft that was genuinely revolutionary in 1933 and still the Soviet Union's most numerous fighter when Germany invaded. The type 18 introduced the more powerful M-62 engine and entered service in summer 1939, seeing action against the Japanese at Khalkhin Gol and then through the Winter War against Finland. Types 18, 24 and 28 bore the brunt of the desperate air fighting in the opening months of the war in the east.
