Opel introduced the Admiral in 1937 as its flagship, a large luxury car powered by a 3.6 litre six-cylinder engine and offered in sedan and cabriolet bodies. Just over 6,000 were built before civilian production stopped in 1939, and many were taken into service by the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe as staff cars for senior officers. The cabriolet, with its long bonnet and sweeping fenders, remains one of the most elegant German cars of the period.
