The Scammell Pioneer was a British 6×4 heavy tractor introduced in 1935, powered by a 102hp Gardner 6-cylinder diesel engine with rear-wheel drive and a power winch. The R100 variant was produced specifically as a heavy artillery tractor for towing medium and heavy guns, with a crew bed accommodating nine personnel and ammunition stowage including a central manual hoist for heavy ordnance. A total of 980 R100s were built; many were lost in France during the 1940 withdrawal, either abandoned or destroyed by retreating Allied forces. The type served across multiple theatres through to the end of the war.
