72013 - High Planes Models 1/72 Bristol Beaufighter II - WWHP112324
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Beaufighter Mk II was a Merlin-engined version of Bristol’s famous heavy fighter. Most Beaufighters used Bristol Hercules radials, but worries about Hercules supply in 1940 led to a batch fitted with Rolls-Royce Merlin XX inlines instead. Around 450 were built, including prototypes. The Mk II was less powerful than the radial-engined versions and had a reputation for tricky handling. Even so, it equipped 19 RAF squadrons as a radar-equipped night fighter during the Blitz of 1941 and 1942, defending Britain’s cities against German night bombers. As Hercules supply improved, the Mk IIs moved to second-line and training duties, and some went to the Fleet Air Arm. This limited-run High Planes kit from Australia builds a Mk II night fighter with markings for three RAF squadrons.
