The Beaver first flew on 16 August 1947 and became the bush plane every other bush plane gets measured against. De Havilland Canada built 1,692 of them before production ended in 1968, and the US military took more than 800, using them in Korea for resupply, aerial photography, casualty evacuation, light bombing and wire laying under the L-20 and later U-6A designations. In 1987 the Beaver was named one of the ten most important Canadian engineering achievements of the century, and plenty of them are still working today.
