Air Force One is a call sign rather than an aircraft, but for three decades it belonged most often to one machine: SAM 27000, a Boeing 707-320B built as a VC-137C and delivered to the 89th Military Airlift Wing at Andrews in 1972. She carried seven presidents across roughly a million miles before being retired in 2001, and now sits on display at the Reagan Presidential Library in California. The blue and white livery she wore was designed in 1962 by Raymond Loewy for her predecessor, SAM 26000, and became the most recognisable paint scheme in aviation.
