The DHC-4 Caribou was de Havilland Canada's STOL tactical transport, built at Downsview in Toronto and capable of hauling a useful load out of short rough strips no other twin of its size could manage. The RCAF took delivery from 1960 and quickly put them to work in United Nations service, flying supply runs in the Congo and later in other peacekeeping theatres in the high-visibility white and bare metal UN finish. Caribous went on to serve with the US Army and Air Force in Vietnam and with air arms around the world.
