The MD-11 was McDonnell Douglas's stretched and modernised development of the DC-10, adding winglets, a two-crew glass cockpit, a smaller tailplane with fuel ballast tank, and more efficient engines. First flown in 1990, it fell short of its promised range at launch and sold in modest numbers as a passenger aircraft, but it found a long second career as a freighter with FedEx, UPS, and Lufthansa Cargo. This is Hasegawa's 1/200 kit in the decal-less Special series, moulded in white and intended for use with separately sold aftermarket airline decal sheets.
