In 2000, the U.S. Navy issued a requirement for a replacement for the P-3 Orion which included the anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare, and reconnaissance variants. Lockheed-Martin responded with an update to their cancelled P-7 design while BAE offered a new-build version of the RAF Nimrod. Boeing offered the 737-800ERX (-800 airframe on a -900 wing and 767-400ER wingtips). Boeing won the competition and the newest 'Guppy' has entered service as the P-8 Poseidon. The P-8 has the USAF-styled air refueling receiver behind the cockpit instead of the probe and drogue system. In addition, the magnetic anomaly detector (MAD) system was deleted from the aircraft to save weight and a change to the ASW mission profile.
