The US Navy's flight demonstration squadron flew the A-4F Skyhawk from 1974 through thirteen seasons before converting to the F/A-18A Hornet for the 1987 display year. The team's aircraft are early production Hornets with the nose cannon removed to make room for the smoke system tank, a smoke tube fitted above the left engine exhaust, and a spring-loaded control stick for precise formation work. Hasegawa released this kit in 1987 to mark the switch.
