The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is a US carrier-based multirole fighter and attack aircraft, with the single-seat F/A-18C adding upgraded avionics and expanded weapons capability. VFA-27, the "Royal Maces," is a US Navy strike fighter squadron that flew the F/A-18C in the 1990s as part of Carrier Air Wing 5, forward-deployed to NAF Atsugi in Japan and embarked aboard USS Independence. This is a limited-edition Hasegawa boxing of its 1/72 Hornet tooling with special VFA-27 markings, released in 1997.
