The AH-1S Cobra was the US Army's improved single-engine attack Cobra, developed from the UH-1 Iroquois and given a Lycoming T53-L-703 turboshaft for greater power and payload. It carried up to eight TOW missiles along with rocket pods and a three-barrel 20mm cannon in the nose turret. The narrow tandem fuselage and stub wings that defined the Cobra series were carried over from the type's Vietnam-era origins.
