No. 74 "Tiger" Squadron flew Spitfire Mk.Is from RAF Hornchurch during the Battle of Britain in 1940, led by South African ace Sqn. Ldr. Adolf "Sailor" Malan — at the time the RAF's highest-scoring fighter pilot with 27 kills. Malan's K9953/ZP-A is one of the most iconic Spitfires of the Battle of Britain period.
