The Vikings were the West German Navy's display team, flying Starfighters from Marinefliegergeschwader 1 at Schleswig in a striking blue and white scheme with the anchor badge on the intake and MARINE along the spine. Naval Starfighters spent most of their careers in low visibility grey doing anti shipping work over the Baltic and North Sea, so a display airframe like 26+63 is a rare bit of colour in an otherwise sober fleet. The Luftwaffe and Marineflieger between them operated more F-104s than anyone else, and the type served West Germany from 1960 into the 1980s.
